It's been a long time

While I have some excuses (South America) for not posting for just over a month, I've basically been lazy with regards to the blog. Sorry! Luckily it seems Ben has kept things ship-shape in my absence and also kept himself busy with some tasty edits, one of which I've re-upped here, so get your download on...

Be prepared for his upcoming take on Switch's 'A Bit Patchy', which in my opinion is way better than the other patchy remix attempts (pun intended) floating about out there.

Last night we somehow played both London & Nottingham within a few hours of each other, mostly due to Harry's speedy driving skills (apart from the unfortunate rabbit) and Red Bull's unnatural caffeine content. Firstly, the lovely chaps at Adventures Close To Home allowed us to play a couple of hours at Turnmills for Boutique's 10th Anniversary. While unfortunately we couldn't stay long enough to catch fellow bloggers Casper Clark (of the Fluokids) and Headphone Sex play (let alone Radio Slave or Cassius etc.) we enjoyed our brief foray there and got to play some peculiar records due to the early slot. It was nice playing Lopazz's 'I Need Ya' & Noze's 'Kitchen' out anyway!


One I didn't get to play but wished I could have is 'Drumtrax' from Joakim's new EP due out soon on Versatile. This is pretty straight up dancefloor material compared to his usual strangeness (its still pretty out there compared to a lot of dance music!), though this still retains the classic Joakim touch, just check out the mid track slowdown and arpeggiated buildup:

We were then whisked up to Nottingham for a 3-5am slot at Liar's Club in Stealth. We had a laugh and played possibly the most full-on set we've ever done (with exception to certain house parties...). I also finally got to grips with the Pioneer CDJ's (thanks to our scrutinous testing in TurnKey) enough to confidently play out newness like SebastiAn's 'Walkman', Mustapha 3000's 'Kongo Thong' and of course my edit of Tiga's 'Move My Body' ;) Many thanks to Ricky for letting us play, we're looking forward to Delete Yourself on the 24th!

I'm pretty sure 'Kongo Thong' has been posted elsewhere in blog-space, but it deserves more exposure anyway. This track so shouldn't work, but does!

Also, while we're (kind of) on the subject of SebastiAn (once again), I'd like to post up possibly my favorite track from the new 'Ross Ross Ross' EP. While we play 'Ross Ross Ross' & 'Walkman' out the most (they're definately the most 'DJ friendly' on the EP anyway), it's 'Head/Off' that really impresses me. Slow but heavy, off beat drum pattern and mid-track riff change and drop creates much head nodding. Listen and learn:
