1928-2007
Karlheinz Stockhausen passed away a few days ago. He was one of the most influential (and controversial) composers of the 20th century, and also a pioneer of electronic music. His thirst to explore sound and non-stop work ethic is certainly inspiring (especially to lazy sods like myself).
Interestingly, back in 1995 he was sent a package of tapes by Aphex Twin, Plastikman, Scanner and Daniel Pemberton. He was then asked what he thought of them, and then they (apart from Richie Hawtin) spoke about his reactions to their music. You can read the article, which was later published in The Wire, here.
